OPTICAL DISC REPAIRS
Chaplin’s IT Services can repair Optical Discs of any make and size and is not limited to:
- CD’s, DVDs, Blu-rays (of any type)
- Camcorder Discs, Data Discs, Photo Discs, Music Discs
- Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, Wii, GameCube
So, you love your music, films, console games but as fate would have it, your music CD begins to skip, your film grinds to a halt, your console game freezes and/or crashes. At that moment it is a grim realization that your beloved disc may be damaged.
What has gone wrong?
A disc usually skips because its surface has been scratched and the laser cannot read its data correctly. This information usually remains intact as it is protected within the disc.
Is it the end of my Disc?
Almost all scratched discs can be repaired, which accounts for about 95%. But cracks and top surface damage (where the print album title is) cannot be fixed as they cause irreparable damage to the data layer.
What if my disc gets damaged again?
Most discs are 1.2mm thick and scratches are often just a few microns deep (1 micron = 0.001mm), meaning the same disc can be repaired many, many times.
What about my Blu-ray disc?
All disc formats can be repaired, though some formats like Blu-ray need special treatment and cannot be repaired quite as many times as a DVD.
Are there any Discs that are Non-Repairable?
Yes, we cannot repair cracked, broken melted discs or discs that contain internal foil damage. Foil damage is most common on Music CDs and CD-Recordable discs. Call us if you would like to speak with someone about something you are unsure about or if you have questions.
If you have a small amount of foil damage we can recover data that is still left on the good portion of the disc that has the remaining foil. Also, if the disc has cracks but is intact, although we can recover the data we may not be able to retrieve 100% of the data.
